The Mixup follows on from The Airmail Project, where 16 artists from 16 countries collaborated by post. The Airmail work travelled a total of 264,000 miles - and we had exhibitions in LA, Beirut, London and Istanbul. When the project finished in 2014, relationships had been formed and conversations started about what would come next.

The catalyst for both projects is serial collaborator and global host Richard Watkins, but the idea for The Mixup came together in many conversations - notably with Lara Salmon, Andile Dyalvane, Rosie Cooper, Seyhan Musaoglu, Saba Sadr, and Federico Fernández Gärtner - all of whom had been involved in The Airmail Project. Like all collaborations, the project plan didn't stay static - and ideas developed and evolved with key contributions from city hosts MP Knowlton, Atang Tshikare, and Nkuthazo Alexis Dyalvane. A special shout to Robert Ekblom who very nearly had Stokholm as our seventh city.
